Before the Ring and Proposal

Ashley and Mike were first introduced through friends during their college days, but it wasn’t until after college that they really started to interact. The pair were “reunited” at a hockey fundraiser five years ago, and have been inseparable ever since. Fast forward five years. The couple came to the island for their annual 4th of July week vacation. Ashley was unpacking and getting settled in and Mike was trying his hardest to get her out on the balcony — but Ashley wasn’t getting the hint. Finally, he was able to get her out on the balcony and before she knew it, Mike was down on one knee asking for her hand in marriage.  

 

 

Block Island Because

Ashley has wanted to get married at The Spring House since she was a little girl.  “We couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else, plus being able to celebrate the weekend at The Spring House was literally a dream come true. We love this island so much that we wanted to share it with our family and friends. Over the last five years of dating, Block Island has become very special to us and we never thought of another place to get married!” says Ashley.
 

 

The Day and Design

With clear blue skies and temperatures in the mid 60s, the wedding was held on the front lawn of The Spring House Hotel. With 170 guests in attendance, Ashley says the highlight of the ceremony was saying “I do!” The couple marched down the aisle to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” and headed to the veranda where a cocktail party with prosecco and signature cocktails kicked off the wedding celebration. Guests danced the night away to the sounds of SUGAR and enjoyed both the cigar and whiskey bar, as well as the late night pizza party. With speeches that were funny and touching, Ashley and Mike will not forget those moments. Each guest was sent home with a jar of Littlefield Bee Farm Honey — the perfect favor that people are still talking about!

 

The Wedding Weekend

A welcome barbecue for all of the guests was held the day before the wedding on the side lawn of The Spring House. A highlight of Ashley and Mike’s weekend was painting “Painted Rock” with family and friends — something they had always wanted to do together. The rehearsal dinner was held at The Barn at Spring House, and included a cocktail hour, live music and a family style Texas barbecue. After the rehearsal dinner, the couple met guests at Winfield’s and then danced the night away at Yellow Kittens. A farewell breakfast the morning after the wedding was a great way to end the weekend with guests.

 

 

Top 3 pieces of advice:

1.    Trust the vendors on the island. They know best and have worked with each other before. It’s important to support the local community and it helps make your wedding special!
2.    Have fun with the planning! It can get stressful at times but remember you are planning for a celebration of a lifetime!
3.    Enjoy your day - it goes by very quickly!
