Monica Dancu, 32, is a design director in the Home division at Ralph Lauren, and Jacob Simmons, 35, is a design director in the Men’s Design division. Jacob grew up in Charlestown, R.I., and his family used to go day tripping to Block Island, so he’s always loved it here. Monica fell in love with the island the first time she came out, for Jacob’s parent’s 40th wedding anniversary.  

It was the perfect place for their destination wedding on June 8 with 150 people, says Monica, “since it is only a ferry ride away.” Block Island made their wedding special for many reasons, she says. “First there is the natural rustic New England charm it offers. Our location at the Cushman House on Mansion Beach was so special: The ceremony was on an isolated stretch of beach surrounded by tons of stones that had washed ashore during Hurricane Sandy. Then cocktail hour was on the deck, overlooking the ocean.  We also had a lot of fun at our after party at Yellow Kittens, which was a nice contrast to the wedding.  Everyone sort of let their hair down, and danced all night.”

Their advice for others planning a wedding on Block Island:

1. Get beach access for the ceremony if you can. You are on Block Island after all!

2. Try doing family-style dining; it feels more personal, gets people mingling at the table,  and you can keep your centerpieces small.

3.Plan an after wedding party at Yellow Kittens to continue the celebration.
