Before the Ring and Proposal
Halley was teaching early morning yoga to teachers at the school where she works and one of the teachers asked if she wanted to meet a great guy. Halley agreed to a double dinner date. They hit it off and the rest is history. Colin proposed at Dories Cove on Block Island during the sunset on August 18, 2016 after spending a perfect sunny day at the beach (Mohegan Bluff) and having dinner at the Spring House.
Block Island Because......
In 2014 Halley and Colin choose Block Island to be a vacation spot and fell in love with the natural beauty and relaxed vibe the island offers. In the summer of 2016, they became engaged on the island.
The Day and Design
Halley and her bridal party stayed at the 1661 Inn before the wedding. She said it was incredible to wake up to edible flowers, champagne outside on the porch and her most favorite brunch. The ceremony was held at St. Andrew Church, and included several readings, hand-picked by Halley and Colin, and read by their family and friends. Cameron Greenlee and Megan Hennessy provided beautiful music, in addition to having a bagpiper. The reception was held at the Rose Farm Inn and was catered by Block Island Caterers. The décor throughout the tent was provided by Halley’s mom with many personal touches. The couple had a unique cake from Kate at Sugar Rush — red,white, and blue for the 4th of July. Instead of favors, Halley and Colin sent out after party invites and bought bracelets for everyone for the Yellow Kittens, so that everyone would join them there after the reception was over.
The Wedding Weekend
The couple had created a wedding website through theknot.com where they listed details about accommodations, travel and activities. They booked the Rose Farm Inn for their guests for the weekend, and reserved a block of rooms at The National Hotel. They contacted all guests bringing cars to alert them to call to reserve ferry reservations in January. The couple also added a weekend itinerary in the welcome bags and sent a rehearsal dinner invite ahead of time. The rehearsal dinner was held on Thursday evening at Payne’s Dock and catered by Rebecca’s Dockside; a welcome party for the guests was held on Friday at The Oar; and the day after the wedding, a departure breakfast was held at the Rose Farm Inn.
What was the most Block Islandy thing about your wedding?
“The oar that we purchased on the island that we used for people to sign and leave special notes on for us to have for years to come. Also, going to Yellow Kittens for the after party.”

1. Have as many guests as possible stay at the same inn: we recommend the Rose Farm Inn.
2. Have your wedding events spread out over a few days to create more down-time together in between events.
3. Plan to arrive several days ahead to settle in and relax for your big day, and stay several days after if you can!
